Love Your Body

Wow, what a week of powerful messages it has been for me. Tuesday was my oldest nephew's graduation from Lake Braddock HS.
Eddie with my proud Mother & Grandmother
I loved the speeches. First from a student,
"As one of 5,000 students, each of us with a unique experience...know that you are uniquely you. Go create something you are happy to share with the world."
Next, from Sarah Fraser, s successful media personality.  She was 5'3" and 190 pounds in college and wanted to become the white Oprah. She was told, "they don't put fat girls on television. She moved to DC and has been on TV every week since. Here's her advice:
  1. Listen to the feeling in your gut, your inner voice.
  1. Get your mental house in order. We all have baggage. Put your oxygen mask on first. What you resist, persists. I (Sarah) lost my father when I was in HS and this emotional trauma kept showing up in drinking too much. Addiction is a big problem in the USA and robs people of everything. Be vulnerable and own that. When you get honest, then doors open up.
  1. Work hard. Social media is not real. Don't compare yourself. I had to hustle for everything. Work on your magic. Each of us has our own magic, something no one else can do. People want to mimic who is popular. That doesn't work. Work on being you!
Yesterday, our youngest daughter came over with two dogs and two children that she is nannying for. I'm in my office and hear a dog fight with screaming and crying. When I get outside, Stephanie is covered in mud and blood with deep puncture wounds to her right bicep. After calming down, cleaning her up, and a trip to urgent care, this is what she says:
"I guess the universe is telling me that I can't control everything."
Steph was trying to protect her dog who was being aggressive when she tried to tend to the larger dog. Instead of blaming the dogs, she took personal responsibility for her part in the incident.  She refused to see herself as a victim and immediately took action to protect herself and her children from further harm. That morning her gut instinct was not to bring both dogs and children to the pool alone but she wanted to please everyone. She could be angry and bitter, but instead chose to hear a loving message. This is a sign of maturity and growth.

This morning, I cancelled my plans to take care of my own needs. Sometimes we just need to say no, risk disappointing others, to put our own oxygen mask on first.
Love Your Body Day @ RTC 2017 w Stephanie
Tomorrow is Love Your Body Day @ Reston Town Center. It is a charity event hosted by Beloved Yoga that draws up to 3,000 people every year. I'm proud to support the event with a booth and information on functional medicine and nutritional testing. We will also offer my book for purchase and signing, our signature chocolate pudding with strawberries, and turmeric tea for tasting. We will be sharing a booth with PtbyMarge and Nurtured Bones.

In addition to all day yoga for children and adults, some see what's being offered at Rise Wellbeing Center and  Neck Back & Beyond, grab the best fresh squeezed raw juice @ Tasty 6 and hear live music from a variety of artists including Woven Green.

What are you doing this weekend that is nourishing for your mind, body and soul?

Carpe Diem,

Lisa

Resources & Upcoming Events-Please mark your calendars

Starting today, there are many opportunities to improve your health. Today through Monday is the bi-annual Thermography Clinic for women in Northern Virginia @ Neck Back & Beyond in Fairfax, Va.

If you are not familiar with Thermography you can still purchase a video and read about it from the Women's Health Summit library that aired last fall.

Tuesday, May 8th from 12-1pm, I will be giving a free lunch (yes there is such a thing!) at Rise Wellbeing Center and a discussion on Why All Health Begins in the Gut. If you or a loved one have had a diagnosis of IBS then you will want to attend. You may be surprised how every other diagnosis can be linked back to gut health as well. All month you can come to one of my classes for just $10 drop in Wednesday mornings @ Rise Wellbeing Center

Thursday, May 10th, Deanna Won will be giving a free lecture on 8 Steps to Healing Cancer.

May 12th is Love Your Baby Day @ Beloved Yoga Studio
from 2-5pm. I will not be able to attend but will have literature on testing to ensure you have the necessary nutrition to get pregnant and maintain a healthy pregnancy. Tears came to my eyes when I recently received a text message from a client struggling with infertility that read, "I'm pregnant!" She had identified food sensitivities, nutrient insufficiencies and gut issues and lowered her stress.  Healthy mothers make healthy babies!

May 18th I will be speaking at the Whole Health Integration Summit on a Functional Medicine Approach to Sleep Apnea and Hypertension. If you are a healthcare provider and are interested in attending this two day event, let me know, there are only a couple of seats left.

June 15th and 16th I'll be joining Woven Green at the Summer Solstice Soul Shine Festival for camping, organic food, music and yoga. These are a few of my favorite things! Bring the whole family for wholesome fun.

Last but not least, join us on Fathers Day, June 17th for Love Your Body Day @ Reston Town Center.  I'll be sharing a booth with members from my Wellness Inspired Network group. Marge Kalfon of PT by Marge and Dr. Susan Brady of Nurtured Bones. Come see so many ways to nourish and heal from within!

Carpe Diem,

Lisa

Join US from Wanderlust to Love Your Body Day this Sunday.

This past weekend I had the privilege of attending Wanderlust, a 3 day yoga retreat with my daughter Dana. Words cannot adequately express what this time means to me. It is so important to make time to connect with yourself and your loved ones if you want to better serve and feel optimal health.

Here’s a taste of our experience and what I hope to bring to you this weekend at the Love Your Body Day Yoga festival @ Reston Town Center inNorthern Virginia.  Sunday 10-5pm

We described the weekend in 3 words:
Accessible + Versatile + Customizable = Transformational
Three good qualities for your yoga practice, both on and off the mat.

There truly is a yoga practice for everyone. Whether you were a returning veteran with PTSD or a retired Cirque de Soleil flyer looking to rehab your body, a hiker, a water enthusiast, mother, daughter, father or son, you could find yourself a class that was both accessible and challenging. We even heard Joel Salatin speak on sustainable food and “kitchen chickens” of which I want two!

SUP Yoga Yogaqua
Three things that I will be bringing from Wanderlust to Reston this weekend and sharing in my booth:
  1. A new anti-aging skin care company that blends Ayurveda with molecular science with ingredients so clean and pure you can eat. Come hear and see for yourself.  Complementary to Bausc on my website.
  2. A beautiful custom designed yoga mat (minus common toxic ingredients)
  3. A custom designed mala with healing gemstones and amethyst pendant to use for meditation and to balance your energy.

I will also have a booth this weekend with The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders where you can:
  1. Learn about our Integrative Wellness Program that includes nutrition, coaching, yoga and meditation and
  2. Discuss the 5 R’s of functional medicine in the Speakeasy tent in a panel on Yoga and the Gut.
  3. Participate in yoga dance and a 30 minute talk on the Seven Steps to Optimal Health.

I’m bringing some of my Wellness Inspired Network with me in the form of a developing Directory. I will have my book and my usual sample of chocolate and strawberries and turmeric tea. You can sign up to receive my second book which is currently in editing and layout.

We have so many choices each day regarding what we eat, think and the actions we take.

Come learn something new, make some new connections and have some fun. Yoga is an inside job, only you can do the work, but it can be decadently delicious inside and out!

Carpe Diem,

Lisa
