Make Love

Make Love

Today doug and I are leaving for a much needed vacation. There are natural rhythms to life that we must heed for optimal health. Even rescue dogs need time for positive social interaction and relaxation. After 4 hours of working they need to stop for rest and play or they suffer both in poor performance and depression.

Those that work the night shift often suffer from both depression and obesity. There is a natural and powerful diurnal rhythm, which is why getting to sleep by 10 pm can yield greater rest on overtaxed adrenals as demonstrated in adrenal stress tests.

Eating local and seasonal food is another way to find harmony and balance in the body and ensure diversity in the diet as well. As I explain in my soon to be released cook book, diversity in the diet is the #1 differentiator in a study on the 20% of women with BRAC 1 and 2 mutations who did NOT get cancer. Yes, we really can positively prevent and protect the body from cancers and reoccurrence through the "chemotherapy" on our plates! We discuss this and more, every Wednesday in our nutrition support group at The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders in Bethesda, Maryland.

This is further proven by personal stories of Radical Remissions that I've been posting about this month. If you or a loved one has cancer or is concerned about the rising cancer rates and want to know about prevention this is a must read!  BTW, today is the last day to get 30% off of Dr Turner's online transformational course. To quote her, "If we are going to win the war on cancer, then shouldn't we be studying those who've already won?" For more information click HERE

I believe we need a new paradigm, one on making love instead of war. I'm awed and inspired by one story of a radical remission thriver, a 45 year old Japenese CEO who was sent home to die with hospice after undergoing chemotherapy, radiation and surgery, all the big guns that conventional medicine had to offer.  What was one of his secrets that helped him heal against all odds? In addition to drinking pure clean water, breathing exercises and meditation, he decided to start sending loving messages to his cancer. He says,
"When I returned home, I tried to find the reason I was suffering from cancer, and I realized I created this cancer myself. I created it because I worked so hard and I didn't sleep. I created it! So, I thought this cancer was my child. And I sent love to my cancer, and pain decreased and I could sleep fine. The next morning when I got up, my mind, my head, my brain was so clear that I didn't use any painkillers...So, I stopped painkillers and instead of that, when I had pain, I said, "0h, thank you very much for saying you are hurting. I love you, my child." I touched this (points to his kidney) and said to my cancer, "I love you, I love you, I love you." And pain decreased. That's why I sent love to my cancer always, from morning till night...Unconditional love, that's unconditional love. I said to it, "Thank you very much for existing."

In my private coaching I always say, "Ask not what's wrong with me, but what's right? What loving messages is your body giving you from ease to dis-ease?" Just like an unhappy child, the more you ignore, the louder one gets!

So vacations are essential. Giving your mind, body and spirit time to rest, digest, heal and repair are essential for optimal health and wellness. You can now bet what I'll be doing on vacation☺️ Carpe Diem!
With Love & Gratitide,

Lisa

Finding Freedom From Fear

Finding Freedom.

Our species has faced generations of oppression.  We no longer run from the saber tooth tiger.  We now run from each other.  We have the power and the knowledge to self-destruct.  There’s even a movement to make killing ourselves legal.  In the name of science, we have labeled what we don’t understand to be “quackery” or years earlier, “witchcraft”. We persecute that which we don’t understand or identify with.  This holiday weekend, Washington DC has been laced with the fear of an ISIS attack.

We also fight our internal demons.  In my book, “Savvy Secrets”, I said that fear was the cancer. Today I want to talk about how to find true freedom.  Freedom from fear and the incapacitating anxiety and addictions that keep us bound and imprisoned in our own minds.

Knowledge is power and a meditative practice provides us with discovery and knowledge of self.  Whether it's a moving meditation called yoga or a walk or a run on the beach; all enable us to release pent up energy and provide the gifts of self-care, self-discovery, and peace.  Train your mind to let go of the judgment, guilt and the fear that no longer serve you. Learn to listen to what your heart and body are communicating. Learn to love and care for yourself as you would your children, lover and friends.

If you’ve attended any of my workshops, whether it is yoga dance, cooking classes or educational and empowerment series, you know that they include fun and nourishing food and thoughts.

So this weekend as you celebrate our freedoms, lets celebrate the power we have every second to make personal choices on how we are going to think, feel and react.  We can focus on what’s wrong with the situation, or we can focus on where we want to go and what we want to create.  We can continue to beat ourselves up and be consumed in battle, or we can learn how to relax and enjoy the journey.  We can focus on war, or we can focus on creating love and peace. We can react out of fear or we can respond out of self-love. No matter how dire your circumstances may feel, we always have a choice. This was proven by Dr Viktor Frankl, in a A Search for Meaning, as he writes of finding peace and love in the middle of a Nazi concentration camp.  The beauty is that you get to decide. Which is going to serve you best?

"There's never enough time!" Last chance invitation

"There’s never enough time" Deepak Chopra, MD says that this mantra is the fastest way to a heart attack.  To quote me, “Our thoughts determine our Destiny. We become what we think.” When we are constantly telling ourselves, there is never enough time; well then…we most certainly will run out of time! Plus this takes a toll on your heart; believe me, I intimately know this all too well.

I first noticed this (and my achy heart), when I was in Arizona for my daughter’s cancer treatment.  Every morning we would be in a rush, really in a panic, to get our juice and food together, and out the door for the commute to the clinic.  Dana would be stressed and unhappy with me, as I was generally the pokey one.  I always have “one more thing to do” before getting out the door. My mantra was, “There’s never enough time”.

When I recognized this, I said to myself, “Just stop it!” When you are afraid for your daughter’s life, every second with her is so precious.

We were spending our precious time together stuck in fear, panic and anxiety.  We were so focused on what was wrong, that we had trouble seeing the beauty and the opportunity in the journey.  We were staying in Fountain Hills; the surroundings were beautiful.  We were in warm sunny Arizona in the winter, we were staying with best friends in their beautiful home, and we had the luxury to go to an integrative treatment program. We had spouses, family and true friends that supported our journey. We were indeed so very blessed.

How often do we miss the forest for the trees?

It is true, that fear, worry and procrastination are the devils that so often keep us stuck and from living a life fulfilled. Last year I missed the 500-hour yoga therapy certification program I wanted to do. I procrastinated with my application until the spots were full. Ditto for the Ph.D. program and for so many family vacations that were intended but left unfulfilled.  At the end of the day, people regret most, not the mistakes that were made, but the opportunities missed.

Do you want more love, passion and joy in your life? Try taking 5 – 10 minute mini breaks for a conversation with your heart. What is it that you really, really want? What is it that is really, really important to you?  If you don’t know, will you give yourself time to figure this out? Do you schedule time to be with your most important person, yourself?   Next time when you are rushing and hear the words, “There’s never enough time”, will you just stop, take a slow deep breath and say, “Yes, there IS enough time”.  “I have all the time in the world”.  After all, would the world end if you were 5 or 10 minutes late? No! Doesn't it feel better to be relaxed, rather than anxious?  Wouldn't that make the journey more fun and memorable?  Maybe then we will see the beauty and strength surrounding us and from within.

Ask yourself now, “What has your procrastination, fear, and worry cost you?”

And yes, time is running out if you want to take advantage of our amazing discounted offer for a transformational mini retreat vacation for you in September. Next week, July 1st,  the cost goes up. Bring your spouse, friend or significant other. They can join you in workshops or go play golf, sightsee or shop in quaint towns, or walk on the beach.  You are both worth it, your relationship is worth it, and so is your life.  See more details below. If you have any questions or are remotely interested, please give me a call or email ASAP
and Carpe Diem!

Optimal Health is Not Complicated; Maximize, Minimize & Prioritize

Do you, like me, have a hard time prioritizing self?

I start many presentations with this slide "Optimal Health is Not Complicated; Maximize, Minimize and Prioritize.”

...and yet doing this consistently is a challenge. Here lies the value of a health coach. I have my own coaches. I have a business coach and paid mentors that I work with. I still have to practice consistently prioritizing myself. Some of us are givers. We love to give, We thrive on giving, but we can give so much we wind up running out of gas.

We don't wait until our car runs out of gas before we fill it up. We don't put cheap gas in a Ferrari if we want it to perform with optimal performance. Why do we do this to ourselves? Do you ever fill yourself with cheap food or wait until you’re starving before taking a break? Do you plan and prepare a nutritious meal to fuel you for the day? Do you prioritize joyful activities and rest and relaxation every day?  It’s so easy to jump out of bed and get on the computer or get to the “to do list”.

So how do I prioritize me? I strive to practice treating my body and my soul as if it were my precious baby.

Isn't it interesting how when you're pregnant, you don't drink? Most pregnant women sustain from alcohol, stop drinking coffee, and start taking vitamins. They start eating better foods and when they need to rest, they rest! This creates a healthy child, this creates a healthy body. As Mothers, we intuitively know this. So why do we stop these practices after the baby is born? What can you do today to nourish and nurture your body as if it were your baby? Can you love and nurture your body as you would your unborn and newborn child? Will you Begin today to consistently prioritize self?

If you are local, join us today and bring your loved ones to Love Your Body Day at Reston Town Center. Bring your yoga mat and try different classes with different instructors from 10-3pm or visit some of the vendors that are in my Wellness Inspired Network, Beloved Yoga Studio, Neck Back & Beyond, Life Wellness Centre and Dr. Wes Rocki. In addition to having a booth with goodies and book signing, I will be giving a short talk on Seven Steps to Optimal Health at the Art of Healing Tent next to the pavilion @ 3pm.(I've touched on two steps in this post, Begin & Nourish.)  http://www.loveyourbodyyogafestival.com/

Here's to your health and nourishing choices; Carpe Diem!

With Love & Gratitude,

Lisa
